Rowe Technologies Inc. 7,100 ft2 facility is headquartered in San Diego California and was founded in 2009 by Dan Rowe, the son of Fran Rowe who is the co-inventor of the Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) and co-founder of Teledyne RD Instruments (RDI). We employ an innovative staff to develop, manufacture, market, and service leading-edge, high quality, underwater Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers (ADCP) for world-wide use for applications in oceans, lakes, and rivers. Our products blend the most established and modern acoustic Doppler sonar technologies into a broad and versatile product line of high performance sonars, for current profile and vehicle bottom velocity measurement.

Rowe Technologies Inc.’s highly experienced, innovative staff has over 250+ years of Doppler system development experience and is on the preponderance of ADCP patents. Most of our engineers were the original engineers who, 25 years ago, helped develop the Workhorse ADCP, that users around the world still remember and use today.

Rowe Technologies Inc. instruments are divided into two categories: Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers (ADCP) and Doppler Velocity Logs (DVL) and further subdivided into direct-reading (powered) and self-contained systems (battery). Direct-reading systems output data live to be displayed and processed. Self-contained systems store data internally and can be downloaded manually upon instrument recovery. All Rowe Technologies Inc. products have dual functionality and can function as an ADCP or as a DVL, and the deployment type is defined during software integration.

The ADCP is a hydro-acoustic instrument or sonar device that is used to measure water velocities in discrete layers over a range defined by the acoustic frequency. The ADCP emits a sound signal of a specific frequency and measures the return frequency that is received from backscatter off particles in the water column.

The DVL is a hydro-acoustic device that is used to bottom-track or process emitted sound signal that returns from the seafloor or river bottom. A DVL combined with a position fix (via GPS) and a compass enables accurate underwater navigation for submarines, autonomous and remotely operated vehicles.

Some of our popular new ADCP ideas include the Dual Frequency ADCP, where you can choose 2 different frequencies and up to 8 beams in a single set of electronics and the OEM ADCP, where you design your own housing and we supply the transducers and electronics. Multiple configurations, where you can setup a single deployment to use 2 different bin sizes for the same frequency. We have shipped hundreds of ADCPs and DVLs around the world to leading companies, like Oceaneering, GreenSea, SAAB, Schilling, L3, Ocean Science, MBARI and the US Military.
