An Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers (ADCP) is used to measure the speed and direction of the water throughout the water column. The frequency of the ADCP will determine the maximum range in Current Profiling and Bottom Tracking. All of our ADCP will include both Current Profile and Bottom Track functionalities. Current profiling is used to measure the speed and direction of the water. Bottom Track is used to measure the speed and direction of the vessel. Bottom Track is also used to give the depth of the water and used for underwater navigation. You will need both functions to measure the speed of the water.
The speed of the water, when measured by the ADCP, will include the speed of the water and the speed of the boat. Bottom Track's speed value is used to remove the speed of the boat from the water current's speed.

Internally all of our ADCPs come with the same features and the same electronics.
The only options you need to determine are:

  • The maximum range you need to measure in Current Profiling and/or Bottom Track?
  • Will you need batteries?
  • How many beams will you need?
  • Direct-Reading with No Batteries
ADCP with 4 beams that is intended for direct-reading application where batteries are not needed. Mount this ADCP to a boat, USV, ASV, ROV, AUV or buoy. As long as power is supplied to this ADCP, any application will work. This ADCP can also be used for river discharge measurements using a trimaran or USV.

    Self-Contained with Batteries
ADCP that includes batteries for a self-contained deployment. This ADCP is the same as the SeaPROFILER except the housing will accommodate 2 alkaline or 1 lithium battery. These ADCP are typically mounted on the seafloor, on a mooring line or on a buoy for extended deployments. Data will be recorded to an internal SD memory card. Data is downloaded with an ethernet connection. Pressure sensors can be optionally included.

    ADCP with Vertical Beam
ADCP with 5 beams. This ADCP will include a vertical beam. The vertical beam can be used to measure the significant wave height and period when pointed upward. It can be used as an echo sounder when pointed downward. The vertical beam can also be used to track the ice. Pressure sensor can be optionally included. This ADCP will come with or without a housing for batteries.

    2 Frequencies, Up/Down Looking or 8 Beams
ADCP with 8 beams. This ADCP can have 2 different frequencies. The first frequency will be four 3" transducers. The 3" transducers are intended for the deep water measurements. The second four transducers are 2" and are intended for shallow water or small bin sizes. This same application can be used on a mooring line for upward and downward looking ADCPs using a single set of electronics. Pressure sensor can be optionally included. This ADCP will come with or without a housing for batteries.

    Dual Frequency with Vertical Beam
ADCP with 7 beams. This ADCP will have 2 sets of frequencies and a vertical beam. The first frequency will be three 3" transducers. The 3" transducers are intended for the deep water measurements. The second three transducers are 2" and are intended for shallow water or small bin sizes. There is a vertical beam used for waves measurements, as an echo sounder or ice tracker. This is basically a dual frequency SeaWAVES. Pressure sensor can be optionally included. This ADCP will come with or without a housing for batteries.

    Vessel Mounted ADCP
A vessel mounted ADCP. This ADCP can have 4 to 8 beams. This ADCP will include a bronze ring to mount the ADCP to the ship hull and a deckbox to interface the ADCP with the ship's system.

    OEM

    Custom Designed ADCP
A custom designed ADCP. If none of these configurations work for you, we can also supply you the transducers and electronics and you design your own mechanical parts. This allows the user to keep the stream line design of their system and also incorporate an ADCP.
